Vox pop: beauty on the rebound

Bh members reveal the good old beauty reliables they return to time and time again. Newer, shinier products can't hold a candle…
We know the deal. You’ve tried to move on a thousand times. You've tried other products, but they’re just not the same. So you look back and, before you know it, you’re in a rebound relationship with an ‘old reliable’. What's yours?
“I’ve got to say Lucas Papaw Ointment. It’s good for everything! Mosquito bites, burns, lip gloss … so many things! Nothing comes close.” – Karen
“More than a decade ago I was told about Erno Laszlo Sea Mud Soap. I thought it sounded horrible at first; mud products weren’t very popular back then! But the woman who told me had such exquisite skin that I was intrigued, so I bought my first bar there and then and have been using it ever since. The smell is subtle and it leaves your skin so soft and revitalised.” – Liane
“I love, love, love Natio Ultra Shiny Fruit Gloss in Coconut. It’s a really great natural colour with just that little hint of sparkle. I’ve had to buy about six because my friends keep stealing them!” – Jen
“Vitapointe conditioner. I first started using it in 1957, but I stopped around the 60s – it may have gone off the market. I’ve recently gone back to it again. It goes on dry hair and you need only the smallest amount, the size of a pearl I would say, so it lasts a long time. It’s not sticky or greasy, so can be used daily. I’ve never found anything that I’ve been happier with.” – Dee
“Bourjois Nouveaux Blush. I first discovered it in Singapore. I was immediately tempted by the packaging and the colour suits my skin perfectly. I’ve tried others but keep going back to it because I’ve never found one that lives up to it. It doesn’t make my sensitive skin break out, it’s consistently good in whatever weather – and I’m talking Singapore to London! It’s easy to apply and a little bit goes a long way. Simply fabulous!” – music, Bh member
“Manicare Eyelash Curlers. I’ve had mine since I was 15 – back then they were the only brand that you could purchase. I’ve tried others since but have never had as good results. They’re quick, easy to use and an absolute bargain!” – Jodi
“Clearasil Pimple Treatment Cream. It’s cheap, easily available and actually works.” – Michelle, Bh marketing manager
“Mine would have to be Vaseline. I take it everywhere. I use it on my lips and eyelids for a dewy look (apparently Natalie Imbruglia used to do this in her Torn days), apply it around my eyes to ward off crow's feet, pop it on my brows to keep them groomed and I even use it on my eyelashes for a glossy, just-got-out-of-the shower look. Love it!” – Leanne, Bh managing editor
“VO5 Straight & Smooth Taming Spray. I love the stuff. I always use it after straightening as it settles those fly-away bits of hair and gives a great shine, without being sticky at all.” – Sarah
– Sarah Macrae

I must say that I am SUCH a beauty junkie that I try not to get too attached to the one product but I am a foundation freak! I cannot be without my GORGEOUS Cosmetics Foundation, it is just so lovely. I also tend to go back to the Body Butters from The Body Shop...yummy.

Paw Paw ointment's one of mine, Dr Lewinns exfoliator, and Natio mascara. The new clinique moisturiser I'm trying is well on it's way to making it on my list though! xx

Two products I've repurchased over and over again are Carmex lip balm and Clinique Super City Block, they're both amazing.

Sorbolene mixed with a dollop of Estee Lauder Private Collection Silken Body Cream. Yeah, I know. That's cheating cos it's two products. But it smells divine and is a great moisturiser.

I'm always a little embaresed when my friends ask why I have this product in my vanity case, but no matter what eye and make-up remover I use, I always return to the cheap bottle of almond oil. It's my all-rounder product that replaces whatever I've run out of... Whether it's make-up remover or moisturiser, it does it all for me...

Bourjois black liquid eyeliner... I always loved Bourjois when I was young, in fact my first lipstick was an amazing purple Bourjois lipstick that my 14 years older (I was 12 at the time so she would have been 26) sister bought for me - hey, it was my 'Prince' phase! lol ;) I've tried lots of items in the Bourjois range over the years and they are good reliable products, but their liquid eyeliner is just the best - I've tried most other brands, but I always come back to this one... it's super inky black and stays put all day or all night... >^..^< lol
