“So I’m almost done with my Invisalign treatment and I’m getting so excited because I can finally see what the end results will look like! By this stage, putting in and taking out my retainers has become a second-nature practice. They're so easy to quickly remove for an event or a lunch and slip back on right after. Even after having elastics added into my treatment, the process is just as simple and easy! (Top tip: bring a few extra elastics around with you in your Invisalign case. They're so tiny and easy to lose, so a few extras on hand is a definitely a good idea.) I've only got a few more aligners left now, and almost all of my teeth issues have disappeared! Crooked teeth, gone! Overlapping, no more! I feel like I can finally smile with confidence in photos, and not be as worried about food getting caught in my teeth. I’m also so used to the feeling of putting on new sets of aligners at this stage! I only get a little bit of tenderness on the first day, then it goes away! I’m also finding that I can also almost use the Dental Monitoring App (which I use to scan my teeth before changing aligners) with my eyes closed! (Almost, hahaha) So excited to see the final result!”

“So, I’m 4 months into my treatment and my aligners feel like second nature now. The benefit is that I’m much more conscious about oral hygiene than I ever was and it’s a great habit to have and maintain for life. The only challenge would be wearing them for 22 hours a day when I have a work event or a night out and trying to ensure I’m wearing them for the appropriate amount of time for the week and only taking them out when I need to! I’m already seeing results with the change in my bite and can feel the spaces between my teeth are much easier to clean and floss. Taking my aligners in and out has also become so easy as well as speaking with them in. I’m looking forward to the next stages of my journey as I’m already becoming more confident and smiling with my teeth which I would never do previously!”

“Getting used to the Invisalign has become quite easy. At first I was a bit embarrassed but pretty much everyone (even strangers) have been really understanding when I’ve had to take them out/put them back in during public events/settings. I have an aligner container at work, in my everyday handbag and at home to make sure I always have one close by. I have forgotten the containers now and then when I’ve gone out if I’ve changed handbags etc but otherwise I’ve been pretty good. Haven’t lost any aligners yet! I would say wearing them for the amount of time needed is the biggest obstacle. You should really only have water while wearing your aligners and you’re meant to wear them 22 hours a day. So if you have breakfast and lunch and then you go out to a dinner where maybe you have a pre dinner drink, then some appetizers, then mains, then dessert you’re definitely not wearing them for the full 22 hours. So I try to put them back in between courses and only have non water drinks while eating. It’s a small change but I have noticed if you do have them out for a while your teeth do move back quite quickly so it’s important to keep the aligners on. The app which I scan my teeth through to show the doctors my progress also showed me a 6 month before and after the other day. I found this really exciting and watched it repetitively because there already was such a big difference. This made me aware how much my teeth had already moved and excited for them to straighten more. ”

“I have definitely found that as I am now over half way through my treatment, the aligners are fitting in a lot better with my lifestyle! The best tip I have is to buy denture cleaner tablets (sounds odd but does the trick) and every morning I will soak the aligners for a few minutes while I brush my teeth and they are fresh and clean and it gets rid of that icky morning feeling. I find that my voice has completely adjusted now as I was so worried about the lisp at first but it went away quite soon. I wear my Invisalign at least 20 hours a day including at work and at the gym – I am still very aware that they are there but I know that others aren’t so I don’t struggle as much with being self-conscious. The most inconvenient part is taking them out to eat, especially when you go to events where they are bringing around platters or food and drink and after trying a few times I no longer wear them to events but make sure to have them on me and put them on for the trip back so I don’t lose as much wear time. I also struggled with wearing them during sickess ie. Flu/tonsiltis and asked for advice for my practice who recommended to clean them more often and try and wear them when possible – when I was really unwell it just wasn’t possible to have them in all the time but worst case scenario you can extend your treatment a few days. I am definitely seeing improvements in my teeth alignment, I am up to aligner 23 out of 37 so I still have a while to go but the look of my teeth has changed drastically which is pretty exciting. I have found that as im now in the latter half of my treatment, my teeth seem to be adjusting to new aligners quicker and with less pain. ”

“So I am up to my 23 set of aligners now, only six months into my treatment. I was told it would be twelve months... I have not noticed any aesthetic improvement. I have noticed less pain and some of the teeth had obviously moved and made space which was half of my reason for the Invisalign. At my last appointment with the ortho practice I discussed this. We decided I would discuss it with my dentist how much space was needed on my lower teeth and perhaps just getting them built up now and going straight to my retainer. As for the upper teeth we discussed extra aligners. So I saw my dentist and he says he can work with the new space. The back teeth have not moved as he had wanted so I am still limited but another six months of aligners may still not work anyway. I am now waiting for my next appointment with the ortho practice to take the next step. I may run out of aligners before that appointment though!! It's hard using the app and not having regular actual appointments to be honest. I am going through a lot of the chewies. I hate all the plastic too! SO much packaging!! I fear I may not get the result I want so I am adjusting my expectations. It is a lot of money. Thank goodness I am on the trial!! It is still a big investment though. It was annoying me that the app always said I had inflammation in my gums but it was because I brushed them just before scanning. I now do it first thing in the morning and my gums have been resting. So it doesn't say that to me any more. Ha! ”

Good luck ladies this process is a big commitment financially and personally. I have been through this twice with my sons and there is a lot more involved than just wearing retainers. The results though are magnificent Xx
