An appointment with Jocelyn Petroni
I’ve been in the beauty industry for SEVEN years, and I’ve only just had the pleasure of visiting Jocelyn Petroni’s Woollahra salon. It’s almost embarrassing! Over the years, I’ve read countless stories about how Jocelyn works her magic on some of the city’s most famous faces, and I’ve always wanted to be one of her clients. Recently, I was lucky enough to sit in one of Sydney’s most sought after seats and experience Jocelyn at work, doing what she does best.
An avid Buddhist, Jocelyn is warm and welcoming when I arrive, and I instantly feel at home in the chic Woollahra terrace. We sit across from each other in the spacious treatment room and she’s all smiles as she asks me about my skin. The interaction is very casual, like two old friends catching up, but based on her questions and her assessment, I know she just gets my skin. She also tells me that no two facials are alike and that each treatment is completely tailored to the client’s needs and their skin type, which I think is pretty awesome. The room is filled with products from reputable brands like Ultraceuticals, Priori, Sodashi and La Prairie, which assures me I’m in good hands.
I take my place in what must be the most comfortable chair I’ve ever sat in and melt into the cotton sheets. When Jocelyn comes in I’m already relaxed, ready for the pampering to begin. She tells me there’ll be no talking, as she often meditates during treatments and I’m more than happy with that, as I like to use the time to zone out and let go of the world, too.
I now know that Jocelyn chose to use a mix of Priori, Sodashi and Ultraceuticals products on my skin, as she wants to address my uneven skin tone, blemishes and slight dryness, as well as prevent the signs of ageing. She removes my make-up using heated eye pads topped with some Bioderma Crealine H20, and follows up with a Sodashi Eye and Lip Cleanser with Chamomile, massaging it in using a traditional Shiatsu technique. Bliss. Next, she does a double cleanse using the Sodashi Clay Cleanser with Sandalwood and Ultraceuticals Brightening Foam Cleanser, teamed with continual warm steam. Then it’s time to go deeper. Jocelyn applies a Priori face and body scrub, boosting its effects with a Priori 25% lactic peel, hot towels paired with cleanser to remove the peel, and a few hefty extractions.
After that, Jocelyn uses a Sonophoreris machine to infuse the Sodashi Acne Boost Serum and Ultraceuticals Vitamin A Concentrate deep into my skin. She later tells me these products will deal with my pesky spots and any fine lines that may be setting up camp. (At this point I’m pretty sure I’m snoring!)
Jocelyn then treats me to a pampering massage using a Sodashi Eye Mask and Ultraceuticals Energising Mask. My hour-long treatment finishes with a spray of the Sodashi Calming Rose Mist (for toning), followed by the Samadara Eye Cream and Ultraceuticals Ultra Rich Mask as a moisturiser. Oh, and some SPF of course.
