The best in-salon hair treatments

Hair salons aren’t just there for trims and foils – on your next visit, why not give your locks some love with a hair treatment? Whether you want to smooth, tone, curl or grow your tresses, here’s the lowdown on some of the best in-salon hair treatments to try.

FOR SMOOTHER HAIR…
Similar to straightening treatments, smoothing treatments are a temporary solution for scoring frizz-free and more manageable locks for months. I was recently given the opportunity to trial the Goldwell Kerasilk Smoothing Treatment. Since having the treatment, my hair air-dries super smooth, so I no longer have to spend loads of time heat styling and packing on product! If you want smoother, frizz-free hair without the help of heat styling tools, you’ll love the results of a hair smoothing treatment.
How long will the results of a smoothing treatment last?
Up to five months.
FOR A BETTER BLONDE…
Brassiness, be gone! As a blondie myself, I know how disheartening it feels when just weeks after getting foils, they turn dull, brassy and well, a little yellow. If creamy, bright blonde is your thing, it’s a good idea to freshen up your locks with an in-salon toning treatment between colour appointments. This will help to eliminate yellow and orange tones as well as unwanted brassiness.
How long will the benefits of a toning treatment last?
Up to four weeks, provided you use an at-home toning treatment once a week, like muk Haircare Blonde muk 1 Minute Blonde Toning Treatment or ELEVEN Australia Keep My Colour Treatment Blonde.
FOR PERMANENTLY CURLY LOCKS…
Always dreamed of having a full head of gorgeous, billowing curls? Well, the old-school perm is still alive and kicking – and for good reason. From a simple body-wave to tight curls, a perm can completely change your look. But be warned: permed hair requires maintenance, so you’ll need to stock up on frizz-fighting products and mousses to give your curls definition and control. We love Redken 5th Avenue NYC Frizz Dismiss Leave-In Smoothing Oil Serum and TIGI Bedhead Foxy Curls Extreme Curl Mousse.
How long will a perm last?
Three to six months.
FOR A HEALTHY SCALP…
Everyone’s been buzzing about in-salon scalp treatments lately to stimulate healthy hair growth for thicker, more luscious locks. It varies between salons and brands, but the treatment usually begins with a scalp treatment and is followed by a moisture or repair treatment for the lengths of your hair. The best bit? The super indulgent and oh-so-relaxing scalp massage. Try the Aveda Hair and Scalp Treatment or if your local salon stocks Kerastase, ask about the Initialiste treatment.
What are your fave in-salon hair treatments? Would you like to try any of these?

I'd be up for a scalp treatment, especially with a scalp massage - nothing is more relaxing!

Yes , at the moment I am drenching my hair in lots of hair masks and leave in conditioners. I don't want to chop off my hair. I guess I will have to eventually.

I would love to have smooth hair for months without having to touch a hair tool. My curly wavy hair would love it.

I recently had a Shu Uemura treatment in a salon. It was $60 and felt lovely after (but it always does after professional blow dry right?) But when I washed it next time it was like nothing ever happened... Won't be doing that again.. I am interested in the Aveda smoothing treatment but cannot find any information on it and it is HUNDREDS!! Anyone know that one?

This is great to know about - I'm not one for sitting much in a salon chair though I know it would do me good. Great to know about in case I go and make that appointment.

I trialled the Goldwell Kerasilk Smoothing treatment through bh back in 2015. I really enjoyed it and my hair stayed smooth for months! My hair desperately needs a smoothing treatment now as my last treatment has worn off. Thanks for the reminder bh!

I have to agree. Although I haven't had that specific treatment, I have had an expensive keratin treatment before, only to find it did jack for my hair. It's one of my biggest beauty regrets (mostly because I wasn't mentally strong enough to stand up to the salon's pressure). I've since realised products containing keratin only cause my hair to shed big time & also break into tiny pieces.

Yeah the salon was also a big reason why I didn't like the whole process. The service was horrible in the sense that they kept pushing me to buy additional products along with it and it made me so uncomfortable. You can tell the lady doing my hair just wanted to sell, sell, sell and was getting pushed by the owners to do so as well as she would have to "ask them" certain things.

I have my hair coloured in salon every 6-7 weeks and have a treatment done each time. My hairdresser uses a leave-in treatment, which smells delightful and leaves my hair looking amazing, and if there's any left in the bottle she gives it to me to take home. I use a toning treatment on my blonde hair in between visits.

I only go to salon for cuts, sometimes colour. I had a keratine tratment done once and I did not see much of a difference

I've also heard that once the treatment wears off your hair kind of get worse than before.

Glad to know there are others out there who found that the keratin treatment didn't work for them. I was disappointed when I got mine done
