Why you need to swap your lip balm for lip oil

By now you’re probably up to speed with the benefits of face oil, but now an extra luscious oil has burst onto the scene – and it’s formulated especially for your lips.
Not only does the consistency of lip oil mean sticky lips are a thing of the past (simply glide it on and you’re done), they also condition your lips which, unlike the rest of your skin, don’t have oil glands to keep them moisturised.
Some of them are even tinted (which is amazing technology in itself, considering colour tint and oil are known to repel each other).
At the moment only a select few have hit Aussie shores, but we predict we’ll see many more in the coming months. Here are two you can snap up right away:
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil
Ingredients: hazelnut, mirabelle and organic jojoba oil
Benefits: large doe applicator for quick and easy application, has a slightly sweet, honey taste
Perfect for: a light, natural look
Yves Saint Laurent Volupté Tint-in-Oil
Ingredients: jojoba, macadamia and coconut oil
Benefits: infused with colour (there are eight to choose from), adapts to complement your own lip tone as it’s applied
Perfect for: enhancing natural lip shade
When to use lip oil
To maximize the benefits of your lip oil, it’s a good idea to exfoliate your lips first. This way you’ll remove any flakiness and ensure the smooth skin underneath is prepped to soak up the nourishing oil treatment.
Another great time to apply lip oil is before bed. The product will work wonders as it sinks in overnight, ensuring you wake up with an incredibly soft pout. Just make sure you opt for a non-tinted oil to avoid staining your pillow!
Can I use face oil on my lips?
Want to use your face oil up before you splurge on a lip oil? Many face oils are also suitable for use on the lip area. Chia seed oil is a particularly good lip plumper, as it’s packed with moisturising omega 3 fatty acids. Try smoothing on a thin layer of Sukin Super Greens - Nourishing Chia Seed Oil+ or Goodness Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil for an extra-nourishing alternative to a lip balm or ointment.
And one more thing
If you have acne-prone skin and haven’t used an oil product on your face before, take care to apply your oil within your lip line. This way, the product will be concentrated on your lips (rather than the pores around your mouth, which could get clogged).

I love my tinted lip oils in winter! Love the Korean ones as they have long lasting tint although I bought a Loreal one overseas which I like (not love because it doesn't taste so nice) but it's not sold here so I can't buy more :(

I just use the regular wind-up Burt's Bees lip balms. They are in a solid form - but they are packed full of oils. I find that type of formula works so much better than the 'normal' petrochemical formulas.

I've got the YSL tint in oil which is gorgeous. It nourishes my lips as well as staining them.

A lip oil now? Hmmm, I am certainly willing to try one out. Oils are really having their day, aren't they?

In theory it sounds like a good idea, but I always find that lip oils look weird on me and look good on others.

I wonder if you could layer lip oil over your lip balm. I just don't think I can go without my lip balm tbh. Maybe layer the two products over night for an intense lip treatment.

I'm quite interested in trying the Burt's Bees tinted lip oils (not mentioned here), I never have tried a lip oil but it would be great in winter to avoid chapping
