Paw paw ointment: the humble skin saviour

Peek inside any woman’s handbag, and you’re bound to find a trusty tube of paw paw ointment. Heck, your boyfriend probably has one stashed in his backpack, too! No wonder why - it’s ultra-nourishing and intensely hydrating, and its multi-use options make it a staple for everyone.
Let’s find out more…
So, how does paw paw ointment benefit skin?
A nutrient-packed fruit, paw paw is bursting with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and vitamin A and C. When applied to the skin in an ointment form, it helps to soften, repair and soothe skin for hours on end.
How should I use paw paw ointment?
Paw paw ointment was made famous when Lucas Paw Paw launched its iconic formulation, but these days, plenty of brands have their own version on shelves. And the best part is that these ointments can be used in so many different ways.
We love the Nature’s Care Paw Paw Balm. A 100 per cent Australian brand, this ointment is made with real paw paw seed oil as well as super-nourishing beeswax, sunflower seed oil and vitamin E. It’s perfect for moisturising your lips, hands and body.
If you’re already a fan of paw paw ointment, but want something that smells a little sweeter, try the Pure Paw Paw Ointment range of scented balms. Watermelon and passionfruit are our faves. Just massage the balm into your lips or skin – it’s bound to satisfy your sweet side!
Need a soothing treatment as well as intense hydration? The Natralus Paw Paw Pure Gel combines the relieving abilities of aloe vera and paw paw to help soothe sunburn, cuts and grazes, windburn, minor burns and insect bites.

Just an FYI to all those using pawpaw balms.
I used to use Lucas pawpaw all the time - for years. Just whenever my lips were dry and needing some moisture. It’s instantly fix the issue.
I ended up developing a small dry spot on my top lip. It’d appear then disappear, come back and it was slowly getting bigger. It didn’t hurt and wasn’t too noticeable but I then ended up getting another little bit of dry skin on another area of my lip. These dry areas began to get slightly itchy so I thought that’s it I’m heading to the doctor. The doctor told me to stay hydrated, continue using pawpaw balms to keep my lips moist and hopefully it’ll go away... it didn’t.
My doctor had no idea what it was so she referred me to a dermatologist who told me there is a particular fragrance used in certain pawpaw products and some people can develop dermatitis from this. She told me that in these products there is such a small amount that at times they aren’t listed on the ingredients list but she has been having many people present with this lip dermatitis from pawpaw ointments.
I stopped using Lucas pawpaw and switched to Vaseline balms and the issue pretty quickly disappeared.

I use Lucas' Paw Paw for pretty much everything dry on my body- especially during the colder months. It's especially lovely on your lips after a lip scrub, a daily lip balm and an overnight lip mask. I've tried a sample of the Natralus and found that lovely as well, although not as thick as Lucas'.

I've heard from a pharmacist not to apply paw paw to lips because it's an enzyme?

there are so many mixed reviews about paw paw ointment - so far so good for me, however, I need something a little longer lasting because my lips tend to dry out again so quickly
