Would you let your little girl pole dance?

Pole dancing was once a seductive activity mostly reserved for strip clubs and rowdy buck’s nights, but these days most of us wouldn’t even bat an eyelid if our friend said they couldn’t come out for brunch because they were off to pole dancing class.
Ever since the health and fitness benefits of pole dancing were brought into the spotlight, it has become quite an acceptable, intriguing and fun form of exercise.
But would you let your seven-year-old daughter join in the fun?
According to the Daily Mail, several hundred youngsters are estimated to attend classes in pole dancing across Britain and the numbers are growing. “Research reveals there isn't a town in Britain that doesn't hold adult pole dancing classes. And, as its popularity has burgeoned, dozens of classes have sprung up specifically targeted at children.”
While some sexual connotations have been erased from the activity, the history of pole dancing and what it represents still raises concern for some parents.
Psychologist Emma Kenny says, “To encourage young girls to use their bodies in a sexual manner is not, in my opinion, moral. Children are being pushed into adulthood long before they need to, and this is one of the most extreme examples yet.”
Despite The International Pole Sports Federation best attempts to become a more ‘respectable’ sport by announcing new regulations to discourage ‘overly erotic moves’, as long as the strip club version still exists, that’s going to be the first thing people associate it with.
Have you ever attended a pole dancing class? Do you think it’s OK for children to participate?

I have used spell casting to get my ex husband back to me and also get pregnant with twins girls through the help of a great and trusted spell caster after 12 years of marriage.
When I came online last year, I met a testimony about Priest ODUNGA who has been helping people and I decided to contact him. We spoke on email at (odungaspelltemple@gmail.com) and later he gave me his Whats App number which is +2348167159012 and he assured me he would help me get my ex husband back after 3 years of no contact. My husband left me because I was unable to give him a child for 9 years after our marriage. There was no contact between us anymore and I didn't know how to get to him. Priest Odunga is the best spell caster I must say. My husband called me after 24 hours of contacting Priest Odunga. Soon I received a herbal medicine for fertility from this man, I became fertile. I and my husband reconnected that very week, had sex and I became pregnant. Today, I am happy today to be the mother of twins girls and this is ALL THANKS TO PRIEST ODUNGA. I came online to say this If you need help, I believe you are saved with this spell caster. Contact his email at (odungaspelltemple@gmail.com) and you too will give a testimony too to help others

What happened to a young girl playing netball or hockey?

Ah definitely not. An adult or older teen maybe not a little girl.

This is so wrong. Who comes up with these ideas?

I'm amazed at the fitness level and strong core of pole dancers I've seen (without going to any of 'those' places!) Even some 40-something woman on one of those talent shows recently - talk about defying gravity!
My hope would be that pole fitness (even that has less connotation than pole dancing) would become more mainstream, as I can see you need a high degree of fitness and strength and that has to be good for you.
As for my daughter doing it (youngest is 16 so no problem), but I'm more open minded now for a seven year old learning it - it doesn't have to be taught in a sexual way. And I've watched many dance troupes with their skimpy costumes and gyrating moves to modern songs (that they have no idea of what the words mean!) and these kiddies are 4-8 years old and are having fun!

I don't believe the pole dancing programs aimed at children are supposed to be sexy, they're supposed to be gymnastics based. When I was a kid all the other kids were climbing poles and doing this kind of thing. None of us knew what pole dancing was. I couldn't do it, bottom heavy and not enough strength in my arms lol. I do disagree with it being called pole dancing. I have no problem with a pole being used for gymnastics.

It is NOT BY ANY MEANS okay that children are participating in this! People who think it is acceptable need to be hit with a pole. What happened to just doing gymnastics for young girls? Disgusting.

No way. I know its a great exercise but I'd be worried that they might get the wrong idea about it.

No!!!!!! I have gfs who do pole fitness and have asked them if they would let their daughters( if/when they have them) and all said no. It's an adults only sport. There is a sexuality to it you don't want to expose your children too. I don't want my baby girl thinking pole dancing is a life skill she can fall back on

Whatever happened to a simple (non pole) dancing class? Regardless of whether or not the classes for kids don't contain any of the sexual undertones, pole dancing is still pole dancing! How are younger children clearly going to be able to determine appropriate/inappropriate? Pole dancing, great way of keeping fit, but really for kids there are a lot of other more age-appropriate options out there (that don't involve them growing up too quickly)

Using it as aerobics tool is ok, calling it pole dancing is not aerobics - it's pole dancing. That's not ok. Children shouldn't do it. Simple as that.
I wouldn't mind trying pole dancing for fun, but I'm a grown up person. Children shouldn't be sexualised in any way. Simple!

I've recently started taking up pole dancing.. because it is great exercise and fun to learn to be more comfortable and sexy in my own body. But with that comes the adult awareness that I can reasonably make informed decisions and be comfortable with them, rather than being introduced to sexualised concepts without the emotional or psychological maturity to deal with them! So no no no, a little kid cannot 'consent' to a pole dancing class!

I have never attended a pole dancing class, although it sounds like it could be fun. Pole dancing is not something children should be doing, they should be enjoying being children while they can.

Young girls grow up too fast already I see what they wear and how they look and many already look alot older then their age. And they know too much my step grand daughter is 12 but she is as tall as i am wears heaps of make-up and short shorts, she swears and is a serial runaway all at 12 I worry what shes' going to do next. Let them be kids as long as they can

No. When she's 15,17, maybe. But definitely not when she's young and innocent. True, she may develop amazing muscles to beat a guy up, but let them enjoy their childhood.

I would if they wanted to....it's not like she would be out doing it in public in front of guys....it would be for fitness and from what I've seen....you have to be incredibly strong and fit to pole dance.
