Happy birthday to a home-grown fave
You’ll have to forgive the Bh girls if we look a little more tired today than usual. You see we were up bright and early at the Art Gallery of NSW for a very exciting announcement from one of our favourite Aussie brands, Australis. And while we may be having an extra coffee or two today, the early start was definitely worth it.
Australis turns 21 this year. That’s a big deal for anyone, let alone an iconic beauty brand. I’m pretty sure my first ever lipstick was Australis (in a lovely frosted brown shade) and I’ve long been a fan of the brand, particularly for its stance against animal testing (they are currently listed on the Choose Cruelty Free Preferred Products list). Plus they’ve always had really cool TV ads. Does anyone else remember that one from the nineties where a nurse steals an unconscious patient’s make-up straight from her face? Sounds weird but it was actually pretty funny.
So how did Australis mark this big occasion? With a hot new logo of course. At the unveiling this morning, we got our first peek at the magenta and black design – and we loved it. We were also introduced to one of Australis’ biggest releases for the year, the Perfection Brush On Foundation. The only foundation in the world to have an SPF of 30+, it gives a really smooth finish and makes applying liquid foundation easy (if you’ve been using your fingers to apply foundation up until now, this product will change your life).
Make-up extraordinaire Andrew Christie was also on hand to give us his hit predictions for the coming season. According to Christie, the smokey eye will be huge but while past variations have seen it paired with a natural lip, this new look is worn with bold lip colours. Lipstick will also be making a comeback in a variety of shades, but I have a soft spot for the gorgeous fuschia being sported by the Australis models.
So happy birthday Australis and here’s to supporting more home-grown beauty brands.
