Your common beauty questions, answered - Hair

Q. Not sure if this is a dark hair problem or even just my hair type, but after I wash and style my hair, I feel like sometimes it attracts a lot of dust! Are there any specific products or hair tools that can help with this?
“I would recommend trying to style your hair when damp and then do not brush or comb it afterwards. If you need to restyle your hair, use your fingers when possible. You may also want to steer clear of mousse or a wet gel product as these sit on the scalp and may make you feel self-conscious. Try only applying products to the mid-lengths and ends of the hair.” - Barney Martin, Pantene Hair Expert & Owner of Barney Martin Hair Salon

Q. What’s the best shampoo for oily hair or more broadly, what ingredients should I be avoiding in shampoos if my hair feels and gets oily the day after washing it?
“For oily hair, it is best to use a gentle cleansing shampoo to help avoid the production of too much oil. Try dry shampoo like the Pantene Pro-V Volume Booster Dry Shampoo to give a longer break between washes. Not only does it absorb unwanted oil, but it will also provide texture and recreate a sense of thick hair. Also, use conditioner sparingly as this will also make hair feel limp and lifeless.” - Barney Martin, Pantene Hair Expert & Owner of Barney Martin Hair Salon

- Fudge Urban Dry Shampoo
- Schwarzkopf Extra Care Dry Shampoo
- Batiste Cherry Dry Shampoo
- Cedel Dry Shampoo
Q. What are some good hairstyles for round/chubby faces? Is it ok to cut your hair short if you have a chubby face and super thick wavy hair?
“For rounder faces, a softer or longer style around the jaw is better suited. Stay away from full fringes and short layers around the face which will emphasise this shape. For an oblong face, try a side-swept fringe to make the face look less long. Super thick, wavy hair can be tricky as it tends to not sit as well as straight hair when short. Shorter hairstyles will make hair look thicker than if it is long, so those with wavy, curly hair should stick to a slightly longer style.” - Barney Martin, Pantene Hair Expert & Owner of Barney Martin Hair Salon

I do like trying different brands of dry shampoos, so I might have to pick some of that Pantene up.

I won't be cutting my hair short around my face then - don't want to make my face look chubbier and it does have a tendency to look a bit chunky if my hair is shorter around my chin.

yes agree with the keep curly hair longer, mine is an unmanageable birds nest on the few occasions I've had it shorter, just doesn't sit well unless it's long

My oily hair stays cleaner longer when I use deep cleansing shampoo. I really love that hair pic, but I can't help thinking it looks like a string of Kegel balls.

I have that dust problem . After brushing with bristle brush and later run my hand over the bristles, I shake off the dust! Not dandruff as I don't have any, but dust! Is it static that attracts it?

Omg I thought I was the only one was dusty hair! My hair brush accumulates a lot of lint and I always thought it was from my bedding. I don't use many styling products just serum.
