has anyone tried their products yet?
no I haven't yet. I'd love too though. I'd love to hear what other people have thought about the products.
they sound really expensive!
there only sold at myer correct me if im wrong
DJ's at Chadstone sells SKII - the treatment essence is ridiculously expensive, I cant even remember how much but I was making enquiries there a couple of weeks ago... Anyway, I got a sample after a friend raved about it. I have combination skin, tending toward dry these days, even tho I still get the odd breakout - I'm 36. Anyway, I've been using the sample for about 3 days now and have noticed nothing amazing, although I can't wear it during the day as it makes my foundation go too matte and dry looking - maybe OK if you have oily skin. So I've opted to just using it at night, but like I said, I've noticed nothing amazing. My skin usually loves trying anything new and usually responds straight-away. I'll use up the sample and post again about the results...
I've been using the mask for a few months and I've really noticed a change. My skin is much softer and smoother. I'd love to try the rest of the range but it's all a bit pricey for me at the moment.
how did you get a sample glamourcat. did you get one from one of their counters. It would be nice to try just to see what it's like.
Yep, I got the sample from DJ's - via a sample redemption card that was in a mag (the mag was a couple of months ago), but gee getting that sample was a bit like pulling teeth! They were reluctant to hand it over! Go figure! I told them I rarely get to Chaddy these days and every time I had been there I had forgotten to take the redemption card... I wish SKII was stocked at Southlands - I find the girls at all of the beauty counters there fantastic, so helpful, not snooty and always happy to provide samples - they offer, you don't even need to ask.
You could try getting a sample via ebay also - I've seen people selling it there... in the past I have purchased various samples on ebay - these days I don't buy any full sized products without trying a sample first, my skin is just too temperamental...
I feel intimated going to those counters at times asking for samples. you almost feel guilty for asking. but If I really love the product and think that it's doing wonders for my skin I'll go back to buy it.
I haven't tried there products
Beauty Obsession, I used to feel intimated by the counters too, but I'd just buy the odd product, either skincare or makeup, and just ask for a sample with a purchase, and then you get some confidence up. I've just somehow managed to become friends with most of the girls at southlands, and they are great, I just make sure that whenever I am there, I do a walk thru and say "hello" to them, and without sucking up, you just make them feel important and they reciprocate - I hate sucking up at the best of times, but once you get to know the girls, they are just like you and me they are human too and they open up and tell you about their sagas too... Now I don't even have to ask for samples - they just see me and say "hey, we've got a new product do you want a sample!?" - it's great... It really sucks that we are made to feel this way - in the USA they hand out samples willy nilly, like if you make a purchase they will give you a couple of gwp sized items - that way they gain loyalty...
Have you seen the movie with Jennifer Aniston in it (can't remember the name of it?) where she goes up to different counters collecting all the expensive brand samples going from shop to shop until she has enough samples to make up a jar? if you go to certain US websites they are a lot more generous in giving out samples to customers.
I think with brands such as SKll they are better off offering samples, I for one wouldn't pay those prices without knowing prior if they were suited to my skin. I don't mind asking for samples, if they say no I just say 'well I wont be purchasing any products' I keep it friendly though. They are samples - thats what they are for, sampling!
I've been using the essence for about 1 month now and in the beginning was amazed at how great my skin looked. I've noticed this past week that anytime I apply my essence my skin feels oily after a hour or so and it also feels like my skin is suffocating (might be from the hot weather) anyways I started breaking out. I've stopped using it and going back to just sticking with my MD Formulations line...you know the saying "if it's not broke don't try fixing it"! I should never have stopped using my MD to try something new.
no ...i would love to if i could afford it
I currently use 2 of their products, which I have received as samples. The Facial Treatment Essence was 30ml and it has lasted more than a month already (because you only use about 4-5 drops for your whole face). I have noticed no difference on my skin at all with this.
The second sample I have is the Skin Refining Treatment and this is used for reducing the size of pores. I use only a tiny bit of this at night and it is simply brilliant! I have noticed a definite difference and am very happy with it.
Sometimes I think the girls at the counters here are stingy with samples because they keep what they can for themselves. I mean, they only get paid retail wages and they like all the good stuff just like us. Depending on their rank the girls are generally employed by the store, eg. Myer, DJ's, etc, rather than being employed by Estee Lauder directly, unless they are a regional manager or something, so they don't get full sized freebies, just the typical 15% staff store discount. The Lauder chick who stuffed my skin right up was a regional manager and she told me that within 2 months of working for the company she was given over $2000 worth of product!
Gee, it would just be worth working for them for the products,
I usually talk to the older counter sale girls and they give me samples, without beeing to
usually if you get to know them their quite willing.
Actually, at least in Myer (I know for sure coz I used to work there) most cosmetics brands are concession brands which means they employ their own staff - not Myer. I had a friend who worked at Clinique in Myer and they were happy to give samples away to everyone, coz they not only get bonuses when they meet their budget but they also get the opportunity I think it was once a month to purchase HEAVILY reduced products from the 'staff' store - it was super cheap! So basically, although they can be intimidating (they def are to me!) it is very rare if they don't give you samples - unless they've just run out or something. All you have to say is I need to try before I buy anything. Clinique (this was before I knew my friend who works there) allowed me to return a full skincare system (cleanser, toner, moisturiser) because my skin reacted to it and they gave a full refund. You'd be surprised what they'll do to try to keep your loyalty - coz there are so many other brands out there it's so easy to lose customers.
hmmm Elmo, interesting - maybe the suburban Myer stores like Chadstone and Southlands, the girls are employed by Myer - even last week I was having this convo with a couple of them... they are always telling me I should be working with them cos I know sooooo much about skincare and makeup! :) haha... and they reminded me of the stingy 15% only staff discount... one of my friends her sis used to work for a company that kinda outsourced for the Dept stores, Trimex or something - so they were hired by the store but thru this Trimex... too confusing for me... i'll stick with putting lotions and potions and pretty colours on my face instead! lol
OK -- I've given my 30ml sample bottle a pretty good run... it's been a few weeks. Initially I could only use it at night because wearing it during the day made my foundation go too matte, but eventually I think my skin got accustomed to it and I could use it for day as well. SKII has made absolutely no difference to my skin at all! Normally my skin responds immediately either way. Like muraljewel, I have been a long time user of MD Formulations which really is one of the best brands you can get, so I think my skin really loves the challenge of products that pack a punch, and if you compare the brands (MD and SKII) I'm gonna get more punch from MD. I doubt I would ever buy the fullsize SKII but I would be tempted to try other products in the range to see if they made any difference, like maybe the masks - but I'll save it for samples I suppose.
About 1.5 years ago I got a bottle of SKII Power Signs Treatment Lotion from a friend in the USA and it made all these fabulous claims, but again it did absolutely nothing wonderful for my skin...
research has been found that SKII works because it gets rid of more layers in the skin than it should, hence trhe glow
I have been using the SK-II products for about 4 months. Its avail from DJ's and Myers (but only the larger stores).
I have sensitive combination skin (not fun to deal with), and whilst I am still trying to calm my sensitiviy, the condition of my skin has improved.
The girls on the counter take a photo of your skin to analyse its initial condition, and then again every few months to see if the products are actually working.
I use / have used:
- Facial Treament cleanser - beautiful product
- Clear solution toner - way too harsh. It burnt my skin badly
- Facial treatment essence: fabulous...supposed to be the miracle product. I like it however the bottle is a bit clumsy with pouring
- Clear lotion (day cream) - weirdest cream.. its clear and looks like a water / gel. Soaks in v quickly and no residue.
- Facial refining cream (night) - to minimise pores. I think it is working. It feels nice.
Anyway - I am still trying to sort out the correct products to use. The consultants area really helpful and are never stinjy with the samples. They have actually encouraged me to use samples before buying because of my difficult skin.
madison may I ask how much u payed for all these products as I have the same type skin and have been intersted in buying SK-ll.
Oh..and B.O the name of that movie is "Friends with Money", just watched that the other day..funny.
I love oils- I am so happy to slather and swish any good oil all over my face for a night time treat.
Lancome Juicy Shaker lip gloss was gifted to me. This is a fun and lovely lip gloss in shade Cloudy Pink, which is a very soft pink with a hint of iridescence.
I've been doing a lot of swimming lately so my hair is noticeably dry. I bought this quite frankly as the price was appealing. I love the scent, super scrumptious!
