Korean Face Sheet Masks - are they worth it?
Korean Face Sheet Masks - are they worth it?
I recently tried the green tea face sheet mask from the Korean brand Etude House. I actually like a lot of products from this brand and really liked the sheet mask as well, but for roughly AUD$2 a mask, I'm wondering is it really worth it to keep using them? It seems kind of expensive to me as they recommend to use them nightly and I'm not sure if these would provide any long-term skin benefits (e.g. anti-ageing)? Also they seem kind of harsh on the environment with long-term use. What are your thoughts? Are they something to just enjoy occasionally for a pamper sesh? Or does anyone actually use them religiously? If so what's your favourite brand?

Definitely feels effective
This product is based on plant stem cells! Such a great concept. Andalou is an American company, cruelty free and vegan, so good! Packaging is simole. And clean looking.
Delicious smell
I received this sunscreen from Beauty Heaven as part of

Foot and heel balm plus.

I've tried one of them and do like it but I would say its more for a pamper sesh personally. Or every few days if they are so pricey. I got mine as a trial but I don't use them everyday anymore - once a week!
Yeah I think I'm in the same boat as you, I think I'll just stick to using them for pamper days haha :) thanks for your reply! x
I use face sheet masks quite religiously. I thought they were pretty gimmicky until I started seeing results from them. In my opinion, you can't really get much out of them except for hydration and skin-brightening properties. I don't really believe in the promises of skin-tightening etc.
Ingredients that I look out for: niacinamide, green tea, aloe vera, hyaluronic acid, vitamin C
Brands that I like: Innisfree, Leader's insolution, Mizon, Missha, Mediheal, Shiseido, Kose
I use the masks at least 2-3x a week and I buy them off ebay rather than the physical stores - it's cheaper in this manner.
Hope this helps!
Ahh yeah I've heard recently niacinamide is a good ingredient to look out for, as well as hyaluronic acid :) and the other ingredients you mentioned make sense to me as well. Thaanks for sharing the brands you like :) it definitely helps! x
Sounds pretty good. From what I heard, facial mask shouldn't be used as an everyday thing. it should be used somewhere around 3 to 4 times a week.
If we are too used to putting mask every day, then our face will be too reliant on the mask which might cause us to have skin breakout easily if we are being placed in a harsh environment.
Not sure if this makes sense at all..
This is the first time I've heard about this Alexendra, but thanks for sharing. Do you know if this applies to overnight mask creams as well?
Yeah that makes perfect sense :) and I didn't know that about skin becoming too reliant with over-use of things like masks but now that I think about it it does make sense. I think I'll stick to using those types of masks on the odd occasion for pamper days, I worked out the cost and it seems a lot! Thanks for your reply x
I go through phases where I sheet mask daily/nightly and I do notice a difference in terms of plumpness and hydrated skin. I think if you keep it consistent, e.g. use masks that boost hydration and not one day use a mask that targets pores/acne and the next day use one for brightening, you get those sort of results. If you mix and match, that's when you encounter breakouts. That's been my experience anyway. I am a total sheet mask junkie! :)
Thanks Ethelinde :) that's great advice and good to know! Breakouts would be a nightmare as I'm always trying to deal with the hormonal-type breakouts, so I'll keep that in mind. Only turn-off for me about sheet masks is how much they would add up to be with frequent use, but I'm still considering incorporating them into my regular skincare regimen x
Im not a sheet mask fan!
Yeah I can imagine they wouldn't be for everyone, they do seem very finnicky to use (like the extra-thin ones - they can be difficult to unfold and apply to the face) and without visible results I don't see the point in them outside of using them for a pamper sesh x
I prefer leave on overnight masks to be honest! Only because of the duration the mask stays on my face. I find that face sheet masks are quite a hit or miss really - some are really good but most of the ones that I've tried are only good for hydration. My favourite is Belif's aqua bomb
Ahh ok, I have never looked into overnight masks but I'm intrigued! Do they get onto your pillow at all? I'm a side-sleeper so I'd be worried if it rubbed off but I admit I know virtually nothing about overnight masks. And yeah I can see how sheet masks would be very hit and miss. I think I was lucky with the Etude House green tea one as I loved the soothing and moisturising feeling, and my skin felt plumper etc, but that's good to know about the brand you mentioned - I haven't heard of it but will look into it. Thanks :) x
I use face sheet mask from the Face Shop. I think they are really effective. Their price starts from $2-10.
Ahh cool, I will look into the face shop brand coz I actually have a face shop at my local shopping centre which opened fairly recently. They have great stuff! Thanks Jillian206 :) x
I recommend Holika Holika for the price and quality - my favourite is the Avocado version. Amazing quality for the price. I purchase online normally from Look Fantastic as they have free shipping. :-)
Have mainly used Skin Republic ones which can be bought easily in supermarkets or chemists. I use them occasionally when I need some extra moisture in my skin or need an excuse to relax.
