My nails are soft and tend to rip and break. They also can be flakey. Any budget remedy's out there?
hi you need to treat your nails with a good quality cuticle oil...
This will treat and strengthen the new growth of your nails. My nails are the same i tread them with oil and cover them with enhancement coz i cant grow them.
The best stuff is OPI Nail Envy... whenever my nails start to get soft or start breaking easily I use this and they grow mega long, to the point I need to cut them down regularly... it's not a budget product, it retails for about $35, but it definitely works out cheaper than buying 2-3 different Sally Hansen products only to find that they don't work anyway... if you look on ebay you may be able to find a bit cheaper, not sure, I haven't looked in ages... I go to a hair/nail supply place and I get it for a bit cheaper, about $25...
Sounds good but it is expensive, does anyone know of any cheaper products that actually do work? I know the saying you get what you pay for, but sometimes you can get a good product at an affordable price if your lucky.
There is a product called Qsilica available from healthstores and pharmacies. It is amazing for hair, skin and nails. Since I've been taking it my nails are growing heaps, and when I lose and acrylic nail my natural nail is stronger than it was before I had acrylic. Here's the link http://www.qsilica.com.au/
This has also thickened my hair up and it's grown nearly 10cms in 5 months. My rave product of the year I think (aside from Liquid Sun tans)
I've also heard that taking calcium tablets should help (or could this be an old wives tale?) because the calcium will naturally make your nails harder.
There is also a Silica and Calcium capsule that you can take, however you need to take them three times a day and this can get annoying. Also, taking a spoonful of gelatine in water every day can help to strenghen your nails.
I've tried Silicea in the liquid form. you can buy it from health food stores. their website is www.silicea.com.au
have the same problem regular buffin helps
Calcium supplements (and vitamin D to help you absorb it!) teamed up with some nail strengthening serums might be good. There was a similar thread somewhere and I've just been suggesting Sally Hansen Diamond Strength.
sally hansens HARD AS NAILS or a simple and easy thing is a vitamin call BIOTIN its a tablet and only need to take twice dails and really helps the nails grow
Ugh yes this is the worst! I think i might try the OPI Nail Envy and let you guys know how i go.
MELMEKO Dr LeWinns Revitanail is the BEST!!! i had false nails a few years ago and when itook them off my nails were paper thin!. I worked in a Pharmacy and saw Revitanail and i thought i would try it. It is the best stuff you apply it for 7 seven day then take it off then start again etc
within weeks your nails will be so much stronger and healthier. I still use it now and then i french polish my own nails and people ask me all the time 'Are your nails Real"? They will grow heaps trust me! Its about $24.95 from Pharmacy but decent size bottle that lasts! :))))
I am definately going to have to give it a go, your both making it sound so positive it definately can't hurt to give it a try :)
Any outer product wont help. You have to intake calciums and vitamins. It will help you for sure
Chimera Australia Nail Polish Store
Thats the same as me, i think its because i don't drink a lot of milk/have poor calcium intake.
I tried this one products its a calcium nail building nail polish. It does work but only till you have the poilsh on your nails. Cant be bothered doing this all the time.
It is not calcium that helps to strengthen your nails, try Silica instead :)
The calcium nail polish probably would help - silica isn't the only mineral needed for healthy nails. Calcium prevents nails getting too dry or brittle.
But calcium alone won't strengthen your nails, it helps but remember too much calcium will give you white calcium deposits on your nails.
The white marks that appear on nails are caused by either hard knocks, or a zinc deficiency, the calcium thing is just a widespread myth, I'm afraid :)
Sorry looks like I got that wrong, lol, but I have been told here on BH that calcium alone will not strengthen your nails, I have even tried taking calcium tabs and had no success myself, nor did I will the silica only because I didn't keep it up for 3 months but other members have had great results. The only thing that I can say has made my nails strong is the Revitanail, tops stuff I wish it was around years ago :)
Here is a clipping I got from a site:
Contrary to common belief, the structure of the nails is not related to the structure of bone, and taking extra calcium will not strengthen brittle nails. Neither will taking gelatin.
There are some good tips in this article well worth a read :)
Yeah, there's a lot of hazy information around. There are a lot of minerals that nails need to be healthy, I found this "website":http://www.drlera.com/health_beauty/nails/nails_problems.htm that outlines most of them and what they do :)
PS yes! Revitanail is amazing, glad to hear you're happy with it :)
Thanks darl I will check out the link :)
Wow, some interesting facts there. I found out why my cuticles are so crap lately, it was not long ago that I was diagnosed with a form of lupus, so I'm guessing a visit to the doc is in order to make sure I haven't had a flare up, it could explain why I have been so tired lately too.
Not bad. This leaves the lips shiny and moisturised.
Awesome. These balms are cute and come in a variety of shades and flavors and they also are very hydrating as well ! They leave the lips shiny and moisturised.
Hyaluronic DMAE Lift & Firm Cream 50g comes boxed. The cream comes in a pretty translucent purple plastic jar with screw on lid.
