My hands look horrible, they are so so dry and the skin in between my fingers is starting to peel. They look old because they're so dry! I'm only 20 i don't want my hands to look old, I've tried so many things. Please help me! : )
I find the secret to better looking skin everywhere is drinking at least 2 litres of water a day. Taking a vitamin E oil supplement helps too. I think of it as moisturising from the inside. I also regularly heat up a small bowl of olive oil in the microwave and rub the warm oil on my hands and let it sit there while I watch TV for an hour or so. Its cheap and leaves the skin much softer.
That's good advice above - olive oil is so underrated - it's so fantastic for moisturising and even helping to reduce the appearance of cellulite! During the day try to apply hand cream as frequently as you can - most leave your hands kinda sticky but you don't necessarily need the moisturiser on your actual palms so if you wipe your palms on a towel your hands won't be so greasy when you're trying to type/do stuff! You want to go for a heavier cream to help nourish your hands - great ones are the Neutrogena norwegian formula one, garnier hand cocoon, and even palmers cocoa butter works great too - they're all inexpensive too.
Also you might want to get checked out at the doctor or something, it could be a case of dermatitis in which case you'll need to get medical advice on how to treat...
Cetaphil Intensive Moisture works well.. you can find it at chemists.
Trilogy rosehip hand cream is lovely and very hydrating. - but Elmo is right - Olive oil is underrated, it is a fantastic natural moisturiser (try light olive oil if you're worried about the aroma) I use to use good old olive oil on my babies when they were newborns.
Whichever cream you decide to use will be good, you should also use it before you go to bed and put cotton gloves on this will intensify the effect. your skin should start looking good in no time. With all dry skin you should drink water and cut back on the caffine. Remember your hands are the first to show your age.
A little unconventional, but make some cookies and use your hands to mix the dough.. The butter/oil softens the skin (I baked ANZACS today, a bit late I know, but they were still good).
Try the Mary Kay hand pack... It comes with 3 things. An emulsifying cream then an exfoliant and a hand cream. I live by it and with a 1 yr old I have my hands in all sorts all day long!
I got sent a sample of Sanctum Hand & Nail Repair and I used it tonight and have to say it made my hands feel sooo soft and moisturised. It has so many oils in it like macadamia, jojaba, calendula flower and olive fruit oil which I pressume is the same as olive oil =) I'm considering buying a tube, it's about $20 which isn't too unreasonable. Sanctum are certified organic and against animal testing too
The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector works for my hands.
I have a 'selection' of hand creams lying around the house (in my handbag, and the car)...so when I see one...it reminds me to use it...try to get in the habit of wearing gloves when doing the housework..ie dishes, cleaning bathrooms ect ect...the skin is thinner on the hands just like the skin around the eyes, hands are constantly 'tortured' just in everyday activities and are exposed to the elements...I use a hand 'mask' once a week (if I remember) to help 'lock' in moisture...and give it a nourishing treatment.
I am also experiencing the same issue with my hands (I always do this time of year) but I do support the olive oil suggestion. Try The Body Shop Olive Oil Body Spray, it is so good and smells beautiful.
Also try Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Creams for Hands & Nails. I hope this helps you :)
Love gemini69's idea! I too have hand and moisturisers all over the house, car & hand bags. I find I use everything from Vasaline (yes that clear stuff) which is great for when your hands crack in this cold weather, to Roskin Skin Repair, One & All from Innoxa, good old corbelene (my cat seems to like that one too...yes weird!)..and I've recently picked up some Badger Balm from a local chemist. So I guess you could say I use a multi-pronged attack!
omgsh i have the same problem!
mine are wrinkly and soo nasty (well they're not the ugliest set of hands but still)
this is great
Hi Kirsty - it sounds like your condition may require more than just intensive hand cream.
How long have you had the problem for? If you've had the problem a while, get a referral from your GP to see a skin specialist or dermatologist. They should be able to identify the problem, and then its up to you whether you take western medicine or try naturopathy to cure it.
The BH Angels send me some vaseline hand cream some time back that works well by repairing skin. I recently visited Priceline and found their intensive rescue relief & repair balm clinically proven to be suitable for severed dry skin conditions and exzeman is hypoallergenic for very dry skin.
I am an eczema sufferer and this is a dream unlike some moisturiser's it leaves no sticky residue and leaves hands soft supple with a great barrier.
Comes in a pump is 100ml and costs $9.99
I agree with MissKrispy before taking any of our good bh beauty advice seek your GP's advice to identify the cause/s behind your dilema!
Sounds like your skin is getting really dry even though you've tried lots of products. I think you should go visit a dermatologist and see if they have some medicated products to recommend. Good luck!
one of my favourite products for pampering my hands and adding that extra moisture into my hands and making them smooth and soft is the "satin hands kit" by Mary Kay.
I swear by this product I always do manicures for friends and family and hey love the product
Here is the link so you know what to look out for - it leaves your hands feeling silky smooth (my husband always comments when I use it how soft they are)
For a set its not too expensive and it lasts a long time
The satin hand kit can be used on your hands or your feet but it contains Emollient cream to give your hands that extra moisturiser that it sounds like your hands are missing
OMGosh my hands too they look so old-though they dont feel that dry
But thank you soo much!
Erch, my hands dry incredibly easily, it drives me crazy in winter!
Right now I'm using Nivea hand moisturising lotion which works pretty well and is cheap =]
I received this Dermal lip balm in the latest Rewards Room and was at first disappointed it came in a 10g small pot as I thought I was getting the tube.
I have used collagen supplements, so taste wise I'm familiar with what I may be getting into. Opening the screw top jar up, I was initially hopeful.
I received this Natio Gentle Facial Cleansing Oil in the latest Rewards Room.
