Is it worth investing in a high quality cuticle oil or could I just slather on vaseline before bed for the same results? I have very dry cuticles, particularly on my thumb nails, and am seeking the most effective solution.
Vaseline acts as a barrier, so it does'nt sink into the skin ...I think its worth investing in a cuticle oil or cuticle treatment like 'Kiehl's'...I just use this at night when I go to bed...its quite effective, and has great moisturising properties in it.
Hi skras, As a simple option I find that moisturising my hands more often helps keep my cuticles in better condition. Alternatively I do like In Essence Nail & Cuticle strengthening serum. It's a serum rich in herbal extracts and contains pure essential oils like Lemon, Rosemary, Lavender, Cedarwood & sandalwood to help stregthen, revitalise and condition nails and cuticles. It smells yummy and a little bit goes a long way. If you follow this with a hand cream you will notice a difference. I bought mine from a chemist but I think some department stores stock In Essnce and you could look 4 it online. Hope this info is of some help to you!
Cuticle oils usually contain ingredients to nourish and keep cuticles healthy, which encourages healthy nail growth. Vaseline won't really do much. I can recommend Dr Lewinns, Solar Oil, which I have used or ask your beauty therapist she may have a few names, or sell some.
Great! Thanks so much ladies - much appreciated!!
The cuticle oil I recommend is the one by OPI. It works like a miracle on dry skin.
The absolute best cuticle oil is CND SOLAR OIL!
It contains a blend of Vitamin E, Rice Bran Oil, Sweet Almond Oil and Jojoba. These ingredients combine to moisturise and condition the cuticle and nails, it also penetrates through nail enhancemnets to help keep them conditioned too! Its the best. It also comes in a "whipped" formula, which is called SOLAR BALM and is good cause it doesnt leak in your bag if you want to take it around with you. You can use it on your lips also!!You can get it at any salon that stocks CND, but if you cant find it ring CND on 1800 672 800 and they will let you know the salon closest to you that stocks it.
are you affiliaeted with this brand msnailz? you seem to be very informed! Lol
The doctor lewinns one is fantastic. I only use it once a week and a little goes a long way. I've had the same bottle for ages and never hand any cuticle problems.
Avon has a really good one it in a pen like device .
Straight sweet almond oil is great. It is the main ingredient of most of the brand name ones. You can get a dropper bottle and fill it up then add a drop or two of lavender oil to make it smell nice plus it keeps longer. If you want a brand name one Avoplex is the OPI one and it is lovely as it is avocado oil and really fine. It soaks right in.
I just use a bit of almond oil and olive oil mixed together :)
Solar Oil , its the best thing since slice bread !
i use sally henson

I'm with Emms! Solar Oil is the bingo-bango-bongo-best!
YEp, solar oil all the way
100% cuticle oil really does make a difference and helps the nails become healthy strong and longer lookk at mine

My cuticles get dry super easily too, they're killing me!
I've scribbled down some of these suggestions on a shopping list for the next time I hit Priceline. Thanks girls! :)
My cuticles get super dry as well- I use an oil I make myself from sweet almond oil, cammomile oil and (depending on my mood) lavender and/or carrot oil. I also use an Avon one that's discontinued- unfortunately- it's wonderful!
I am pleased to know Sweet Almond Oil is going to help my cuticles as well, impressed that is has so many uses. The only thing I currently use on my cuticles is the Burts Bees cuticle balm.
I bought Burts Bess cuticle balm today - cuticles feel and look better already :)
would it be okay to just use an essential oil??
I use a sweet almond oil pen from The Body Shop. It smells great, feels divine and helps soften my cuticles. It comes with a soft cuticle pusher to help with application.
i always use cuticle oil!! i just love it!! i also use a good cuticle cream for exessively dry cuticles!
I was fortunate enough to receive the Weleda Skin Food Light moisturiser at the Glosscar Marketplace event, and get the opportunity to trial it on my skin.
I love that the Toni&Guy StrengthPlex Bond Repair Shampoo is infused with Australian harvested Kakadu Plum.
Although my skin is a bit dry and quite sensitive, I have a few enlarged pores (mainly on my nose), and I occasionally have the odd whitehead, so I was looking forward to trying this product; I lov
