So I have quite a tiny budget, and I was just wondering if you lovely ladies have tried any whitening systems that show results fast?
I'm desperate to have white teeth!
Put alittle Bicarb soda on your toothbrush and brush away, tastes revolting but works really well. My hubby was a smoker and wanted to find a way budget wise to whiten his teeth, someone (health professional) suggested bicarb and needless to say it has worked well.
I have hideous yellow teeth from drinking tea. I always winge that I don't drink red wine, don't smoke, don't drink coffee, but somehow tea drinking is bad enough to make my teeth look foul! I'm definitely going to try the bicarb soda, I'll try anything cheap!
Colgate max white one toothpaste is pretty good. It's by no means a miracle, but its only $6 for a pretty large sized tube! My teeth were pretty quite to start with so i didnt see massive changes but i still saw improvements :)
I swear by the WhiteGlo express whitening pen & whitening strips..
The strips worked amazing for me, I'm a big caffeine drinker and (sadly)a smoker.
They're around $19.95 in Priceline :)
That WhiteGlo stuff really works!! I completely agree with you Kristylouise :) I don't drink coffee or smoke though, I just have bad teeth and they are naturally yellow (I know that sounds weird but I have lots of problems with my teeth) Bicarb also works just as well but the WhiteGlo does taste a lot better if you can't handle the taste of Bicarb
i 100% agree with the bicarb trick. I put some toothpaste on my brush, and then tip it into bicarb and brush away !!
I've heard of the bicarb trick, but is it true that it damages the enamel of your teeth :(?
I do this once a month - bad thing is you start tasting it after one minute of brushing.
Crest Whitestrips! I use them, they really do work :)
i was reading in a newspaper yesterday that they are recalling the crest whitestrips along with other teeth whitening kits as it has too much peroxide in it..
Im definitely trying the Bicarb soda. Apparently rubbing half a strawberry over your teeth is supposed to work as well.
As for future prevention - after you finish a coffee have a drink of water, then the coffee isnt sitting on your teeth for too long.
Also try switching to green, herbal or white tea varieties as only the black teas will stain teeth.
I have inherited yellow teeth - thanks mum and dad!
By the way, just did a bit of research and I found this!
Good thing I did because I have braces so now I know not to try Bi carb with braces or a retainer.
" Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide
One controversial method of whitening teeth is by dipping the toothbrush in hydrogen peroxide, before dipping it in baking soda. This is supposed to impart a better whitening effect. You can also brush with a paste of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide.
Irrespective of the method chosen, it is important to note that one must not brush one's teeth, with baking soda more than twice a week. Moreover, very gentle, 2 minute brushing is required. Brushing for too long has bitter consequences.
Is Brushing Teeth with Baking Soda Bad?
Now that we have read how baking soda is used to brighten the teeth, the million dollar question, 'is brushing teeth with baking soda safe for us' will also emanate. Baking soda, though claimed by many as the most popular and safest DIY natural teeth whitening agent, is not as safe as it looks. Swallowing this powder is not deleterious to health. However, baking soda works by oxidizing the stains present on the teeth enamel. This is slightly dangerous! Baking soda is abrasive in nature and chronic use of it can cause damage to the enamel coating on the teeth. Teeth enamel will wear off, making the teeth sensitive and vulnerable to cavities. Thus, chronic use of baking soda can cause permanent damage to the teeth. Moreover, baking soda doesn't kill bacteria present in the mouth, thus, after brushing with baking soda, one has to brush with toothpaste to prevent cavities. Moreover, those who have braces or wear permanent retainers should not use baking soda, as the brackets can fall off, leaving darker spots.
Baking soda is an effective bleaching agent, however, brushing teeth with baking soda regularly is not a good idea. Try using specific toothpaste brands containing milder abrasives as compared to baking soda. This way, you won't have to worry about your enamel being worn off! Ultimately, the choice to use baking soda to brush your teeth is entirely yours! "
I have reported the post by tapydisuza on 5 October as spam ... well, it looks like spam to me. The poster tried to hide it further back in this thread.
Whiteglo definitely works, easy on the bicarb though! It will strip your natural enamel leaving your teeth sensitive and brittle
Oil pulling is meant to be a natural and effective way to whiten teeth. Dunno about you but I'm not sure I could stand to have oil in my mouth for 20 mins+ :/
A small amount of hydrogen peroxide, you can buy it in the supermarket before using your usual toothpaste helps. Don't use it all the time and make sure you don't swallow it.
is using bicarb soda safe for teeth tho? i would think it would affect the enamel (like soft drink does). i've tried oil pulling before but can't seem to stick to it. you're supposed to swish the oil for 20 mins at a time - just don't spit down the sink cause it's so bad for the environment. spit into a tissue in the bin
