Does anybody know of any products or tricks to help keep your braces and teeth really clean?
i think you can get a really stiff tooth brush to clean just the braces or one of those little periodontal fuzzy probe brushes to get in there. for your teeth, i suggest you use a small head with soft bristles.
not really.... but heres a tip
when u get ur braces taken off make sure you wear the mouth plate... otherwise your teeth will move back!!
my bottom teeth moved because my plate broke and i was too lazy to get it replaced!
thanks. i brush and floss and use one of those probe brushes but my teeth stain really easy. i eat healthy and my friends who eat junk and have braces have perfect teeth. it must be me
keeping your braces clean is essential. I had braces on my top teeth many years ago to close a gap. You can purchase cleaning tools specifically for traces from the supermarket, pharmacy or Priceline. With dental floss you thread it through the braces and then clean the gums. There is a dental floss which is specifically designed for braces as well and is thicker than normal dental floss.
I used to have braces too!!! If was a terrible time, but all the hard work and cleaning is worth it jennrach!! My friend had braces too and when she got them off she had white little squares on her teeth coz she didn't brush them properly while she had her braces! It sounds like to me your doing a pretty good job!
I'm getting braces too! I've just had teeth pulled out and am getting them a few days after my birthday :( This is really great help and warnings :D
If you drink tea, coffee, red wine - these are some of the things that are incredible at staining teeth. I eat healthy but I do love a tea in the morning and I find just this is enough to stain my teeth. So I use a little bit of tooth whitening toothpaste once or twice a week and this removes a lot of stain. I don't use it all the time because my teeth are already quite sensitive so I only use it when I feel they need a bit of brightening up. I've just finished invisalign (like braces but removeable whenever you want to eat/brush) and had quite yellowish teeth from wearing the aligning trays all the time. I used the whitening toothpastes for about a week straight and this got my teeth to a nice colour again.
I intend on getting braces in the near future. All these really give good warnings in regards to the dos and donts when i do get them. Thanks!!
When i had braces i would use a toothbrush, then floss and mouthwash as i didnt want my teeth to be stained ! After you get your braces off you usually get a retainer- i suggest that you wear them as my friend had one and she never wore it and it those two years of wearing braces was wasted.
Best thing my orthodontist told me was to use one of those small in between teeth brushes.. "Piksters" mine are called.
Its like flossing but its a brush. Just slip them through the wires to all the hard to reach places that your normal toothbrush can't reach - it gets everything that way.
You can buy them from chemists and refill the bristle parts of Pikster.
I have a permanent plate on [ its good because you'll never forget to put it on, its there and its non-intrusive] and i still use these Piksters to get to those hard to reach places.
i found the electric tooth brush to be very useful in cleaning your teeth whilst on braces. it polishes your teeth and you don't get those gritty plaque-y feeling....the electric toothbrush was excellent when I had my teeth tighten and brushing with a toothbrush would hurt...the electric toothbrush is more gentle on the teeth....as to getting those food particles out try those small bristle floss heads (i dont know the name sorry!ive seem them at the supermarket) or the plastic needle which you can thread the flossing thread through like a needle (ask your dentist)...hope this helps!
Yeah i agree with 'DianeN' the electronic toothbrush really helped my friends who have braces.
And i think there is a tiny little brush you can use to keep your braces and the small hard to brush bits of your teeth.
i think you can get it in Coles or Pharmacies too.
Be sure to floss! Flossing removes the food between teeth hidden by the wire, so prevents cavities between the teeth.
heyy i just got my braces off a month ago :)
definately worth the metal mouth period.
anywho i didn't use anything special for brushing my teeth. i just brushed them really well twice a day.
ive had my dentist check up however and they said some enamel has been worn away from the braces.
but i didnt have any white squares :)
GL with your bracess,
make sure to always clean your teeth before you go to the dentist for your appointment, or else they think you haven't been caring for your teeth all that well. ;P
that's what happened to me, my orthodontist thought i was't looking after my teeth when the fact of the matter was that i had just eaten lunch, and food aways got caught on my braces.
also, use those tiny pick toothbrushes for your braces toget into the nooks and crannies, you canget them in the pharmacies and supermarkets (i used the oral b ones).
and hold your breath when they take your braces off, they stink so much when they take them off! and your teeth will look gorgeous when you get your braces off!
and always wear your retainers, because you don't want to ruin all the heard money and work that went into your teeth.
yup, i think that's it.
hey!!! ive had braces on for the past two and a half years, with 6 months to go... i brush after every meal, floss each morning and use mouthwash mornings and sometimes at night.. otherwise apart from avoiding sugary foods and soft drinks there's not much else you can do..
there arfe special toothbrushes for braces and avoid lollies
You can get a special floss that has a really stiff end to thread between the braces, and a sort of foamy section that can clean the gaps and around the braces. I think it's called OralB Superfloss. Because you probably brush more than twice a day make sure you have a soft brush - actually everyone should use a soft brush, or else you will rub off the enamel.
Don't stress too much, my teeth looked stained when I had braces on, then when they came off they give them a really good clean, and they looked fantastic! I also had a whitening treatment kit from my orthodontist, which made my new straight smile sparkle even more!
Make sure you still see your dentist while you are seeing the orthodontist, the orthodontist is concerned with aligning your teeth, and your dentist is concerned about your oral health and hygeine.
I've also noticed that on people who have the "clear" braces, their teeth tend to look "dirtier" than those with metal braces. Metal braces are also much stronger than clear plastic, and don't break off as easily.
Yeah you can get special gel too. When you first get your braces put on avoid foods like coke and lollies and apples etc. they will affect them big time, and apples can dislodge your braces!
my friend had this funny brush, it was really small and looked like a tiny christmas tree and she used it to get between her braces to clean them
I was given a peridontal (this mini brush which has been mentioned above). Also mouthwash and flossing will also help. Avoid eating a lot of sugary foods and hard foods as they may move the brackets (which will ultimately move your teeth in a different way).
I just got my braces off today..and it feels funny..
my son still has his braces . make sure you don't eat anything that his hard , stickie or sweet and no hard food no lollies , clean your teeth really good use the wax if you need to replace the rubber bands no soft drinks it will pay off in the long run when it comes to fruit and vegetables cut them up small or grate them rinse after food hope this helps .
im not sure about product wise, but a tip if your a fan of bubblegum, i suggest you give it up, it gets caught in your braces, and very hard to get out, also avoid very fizzy, sugary drinks, coke is the worst drink you can have while having braces,
to clean in between braces, snip the bristles on a spare toothbrush so that only 1/4 of them are left at the top of the head...this can be used for getting in between the wire and teeth to get food out.
That's a really good tip Mparise, ive got a small suitable that i use that my ortho gave me. I just cant wait to get them off, probably in a few months!!!! YAY
This gradual smells amazing and leaves my skin feeling silly smooth and hydrated. It absorbs into the skin really well and gives me a really natural looking tan.
I received this as part of the Oct discovery bag (thanks BH!) and was keen to try out this Australian cruelty-free brand.
I received this product as part of a trial team. This is my first trial so its ironic that it would be food.
