Great simple guide.
Thankfully not something I suffer from ... yet ... but I am very careful regarding my sugar intake. I only consume a small fraction of what I used to consume as a child. My parents were so bad, we had sugarly foods everywhere.
But it is only over the last few years (since my dad was diagnosed) that my mum has developed a obsession with diabetes and is convinced that I have it since I am trying to keep my water consumption up as much as possible (I hardly ever drink the recommended 8 glasses a day though I try) and because I am not skinny... She doesn't care that I am consume heathier food now that I am an adult compared to when I was young and I get my blood sugar levels checked yearly.

I notice it on people (for me impossible to get it): the smell (sour/sweet/dewy), skin bruising/colour/marks, waist/hip ratio-around the waist blubber (can have skinny limbs), squinting/murky eye irises...

Leg cramps could be diabetes, it could be circulation problems or it could be due to other health problems, it is one of many symptoms you should be looking at.

I had no idea that some of those symptoms were related to diabetes!

I'm overweight and terrified of getting diabetes. I'm making changes now to reduce my weight and improve my health - but it's good for me to be aware of these all the same.

6 maybe 7 of those symptoms, I put the numbess down to my low blood pressure, I'm not sure if my itching symptom fits though because my hands and feet feel unbearably hot at times and it seems to be almost like an allergic reaction but there's never an apparent cause. I do need to cut back on my sugar intake.

I knew about most of these already but good to be reminded. My mum has type 2 diabetes and refuses to believe it's diet/weight related.

My dad is the same. He was seeing a doctor regulary right after diagnosis but he kept on getting worse and worse.
The doctor gave him an eating guide which my dad flicked though and called it bs the poor doctor who was trying to do the right thing and not go down the medication route until the more sensible routes had been exhaused was forced to end up giving my dad meds without dad improving his diet and then had to strenghten them. His diet has not improved much since the diagnosis but he has picked up walking for 30 min three times a week (very slow) but it is better than before.

I was diagnosed with Diabetes Type 2 1 1/2 years ago and I didn't have any of the above symptoms. Plus I was the right weight for my BMI (just have a tiny bit extra around my middle) and also nobody in the family has it. Guess I just got the short straw. My g.f. who had none of the side affects is now Diabetes Type 1.
It is just amazing all the people now that are getting Diabetes, it certainly is a big problem.
