How to: create a romantic Valentine's Day boudoir
So you wanna celebrate Valentine’s Day with your special someone but there’s some obstacle in the way? Sure, that can be a little annoying, but don’t let your erratic work schedule/dwindling bank balance/distaste for all things elaborate on Valentine’s Day keep you from spending a special night together. In fact, it’s so easy to create the perfect Valentine’s Day ambiance in your very own boudoir that you’ll wonder why you never thought of it before.
The importance of smell
So your home smells a bit too much like the bolognaise you cooked last night and old sweaty socks? Yikes. Not very romantic, but totally fixable. First, open up those windows and let the rooms in your house air out. Next, you’ll want to grab something that will not only turn that old, musty smell into a scent that’s a little more pleasant on the nose, but it’ll create a calm and romantic atmosphere, too.
For a subtle scent try: Trelivings Blush Diffuser.
For a stronger scent try: Ecoya Natural Soy Wax Melts in Jasmine with the Ecoya Oil Burner.
For a powerful scent with added ambiance, try: Glasshouse Bordeaux Vanilla Noir Triple Scented Candle
Set the mood
You’ve got your home scent sorted, so now you just have to take care of a few other things to get the atmosphere right.
1) If you have housemates, ask them to make themselves scarce. There’s nothing that can put a dampener on a romantic evening more than an unwanted third (or even fourth) wheel.
2) Dim the lights to a soft glow. And if you don’t have a dimmer, why not hit the lights and set up a few tea light candles around the room? Add a few small jars of flowers for a très romantic feel.
3) Have some sexy tunes playing in the background. Whether you’re into some cheesy love music alá Boyz II Men or something a little smoother like Adele, pick some tracks that both you and your boy will enjoy. Just remember not to put it on too loud – you’re having a romantic night in, not a dance party.
Dinner and some wine could very easily turn into a cuddle on the couch, a soak in the tub and even some massage time. And imagine the horror of having to walk into a dirty bathroom and not having much else to offer other than some hot water and maybe some moisturiser for that massage. Better to avoid that embarrassing situation and 1) make sure your bathroom is so clean you could actually eat dinner in there, and 2) have some bath bombs and massage oil at the ready (oh, and if you have that candle burning, bring it with you to the bathroom and bedroom!)
For a heavenly soak in the tub, try: Evodia Champagne Melon Relaxing Bath Soak.
For a sensual, indulgent massage, try: Aromatherapy Associates Rose Body Indulgence.
