With love, bare-shouldered beauty

The stress of the dreaded HSC is enough to deal with, without the constant headache of corsage colour-matching, gambling with gloss and linking your lippy to your date’s lapel. We answer your formal make-up mysteries.
Q: I want to know how to hide any body blemishes, as well as information about the best body prep for a strapless dress?
Body blemishes always seem to appear when we want to show a little shoulder, don’t they? Battle them while covering them at the same time with a product like Dermalogica MediBac™ Concealing Spot Treatment - which is a concealer and spot treatment in one!
Dead skin cells are the very cause of a blotchy, uneven tan. If you are thinking about getting sprayed, exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate and then moisturise thoroughly. A good clean base will allow any colour to stay-put, without sticking to dry bits and flaking off. Using a gorgeous smelling body butter will help to ensure soft skin - Urban Rituelle Beachcomber Ruby Mango Body Butter is our pick. Want a hint of a summer sun but don’t fancy a full-on faux glow? L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Shimmering Body Lotion smells like summer and will have you looking 'R-Patz-radiant' in the moonlight.

If you feel you need to "prep" for wearing a strapless dress you'd probably be better off in another style. The bolero has really come back into fashion recently, and even beyond that, sleeves and collars provide so much impact and individuality to an outfit. Wearing what's essentially a tube, only a few ruffles and a colour change different from everyone else's tube, isn't a winning strategy for standing out.

I find using a matte powder that matches your skin colour or slightly darker to powder the body all over, then finishing off with a shimmer powder, helps to cover balance the colour and conceal any spots. Though the shimmer part can be a bit too much for day time wear.

I agree, exfoliate and good old body butter work a treat to keep the blemish's at bay.
